When we say you’ll leave menswear designer Troy Costa’s flagship boutique and studio a changed man, we’re not kidding. The designer’s clientele may extend to celebrities like Hrithik Roshan and Aamir Khan, but a single visit to the store is enough to have the average chap dressing like a jet-setting A-lister.
At present, the store stocks a variety of shirts, jackets and trousers, all designed and cut by Costa to ensure the best possible fits. Another reason why Costa’s designs stand out are because of the fabrics he handpicks. They are manufactured at a design unit in Italy and often go through a series of treatments such as quilting, lacquering, smoking, flocking and even Duco painting before they are stitched. But you’ll fall in love with these wardrobe essentials because of the little details like aligning printed fabrics for perfect symmetry and stitching on an additional button behind every visible button on a jacket or tuxedo, so they don’t fall off easily.
There were soft cotton shirts (Rs.2,000-5,000) featuring pockets with zipper trims and impeccably detailed pleats and pintucks in a series. But we were most amused by the line of dressy shirts in prints inspired by optical illusions – think boring black-and-white stripes disappearing and fading into all-white halfway through the shirt. While Costa’s current collection has limited options for Indian wear, you’re sure to find a jacket for every occasion (Rs.15,000-18,000). A black velvet suit with heat-sealed baroque motifs in gold is perfect for wedding functions, a beige linen jacket with a crest for casual parties and a chic ombré-finish black and graphite one for date nights. Costa’s first footwear collection includes distressed gladiator-style sandals, classic black-and-white brogues and all-black oxfords (Rs.4,500-7,000).
